Dearly departed Dotty

Dotty was a little lass
never to be seen
Anywhere without a glass
and some amphetamine

In the evenings she would write
spread her woes in ink
She’d look the paper up and down
and have another drink

Poems she would write, and tales
tragic little verse
When she wrote of happiness
this made her feel worse

In the morning she’d arise
for yet another day
Perhaps lunching with a man
knowing she would pay

Dotty had a way with words
and none could match her wit
People used to fear her tongue
for she could maim with it

She never used to say a lot
though she wasn’t shy
She just peered o’er her cigarettes
while smoke got in her eye

She will write her verse no more
she has long been dead
Something Dotty would adore
for that, she'd say, is that

Zaantheater
